Product GL (General Ledger product group)
The hidden internal category Amazon files every ASIN under — not the browse node, not seller-editable — and the silent decider of your fee schedule, A+ eligibility, and even whether you may advertise.
GL (General Ledger) is Amazon's internal product-group classification, visible to sellers mainly as the 'product group' column in the Fee Preview report. It drives consequences the visible category does not: referral-fee schedule assignment, program eligibility, and hard gates — an ASIN mis-filed into the Books GL, for example, cannot carry A+ Content or be advertised at all.
You cannot edit it; support often cannot name it. The fix path that works: identify the wrong GL via Fee Preview, open a case (Brand Registry support for registered brands responds best) explicitly requesting a 'GL category change' with evidence of what the product is, and verify 24–48 hours later. Symptoms that should make you check GL: unexplained fee rates, A+ rejected on a normal product, ads blocked on an ASIN with no policy issue.
The numbers
- Where to see it: the 'product group' column in the Fee Preview report — not exposed in listing edit screens.
- What it gates: referral-fee schedule, A+ Content eligibility, advertising eligibility (e.g., Books GL blocks both).
- Fix: support case explicitly requesting a GL category change (Brand Registry support for enrolled brands); changes reflect in 24–48h.
