Amazon's category-tree ID for where a product lives — it decides which BSR you compete in, which filters can find you, and which fee category you may be charged under.
Every product sits in one or more browse nodes — numbered positions in Amazon's category taxonomy. The assignment drives more than navigation: your Best Sellers Rank is computed within your node, search filters draw from node membership, and misclassification can bury a product where its buyers never browse.
Node placement follows from your product type and item attributes, and it drifts — catalog updates and automated reclassification move products without asking. Check your nodes quarterly (the listing's category path and BSR category tell you), and use the category listing report or support cases to correct a wrong assignment; a right-node move alone can change discoverability.

- BSR is computed per browse node — your rank is only as meaningful as your node is right.
