Item Highlights

The 125-character searchable field Amazon added below the product title in July 2026 — the indexed home for the material, compatibility, and use-case qualifiers a 75-character title can no longer hold.

Item Highlights is a distinct listing field, not a rendering of your existing attributes. It carries up to 125 characters, sits below the title in search results and on the detail page, and Amazon's announcement describes the content as searchable. It arrived on July 27, 2026 in the same change that capped non-media titles at 75 characters, and the rollout runs gradually through the rest of 2026 — listings do not all update on the same day.

Because it is indexed, the field is a keyword surface with a budget, not an overflow bin for the words the title lost. Two rules follow. Do not repeat words the title already indexes — coverage is a function of unique words, so a repeat buys nothing and spends part of the 125. And do not import high-volume phrases that describe a product you do not sell: the field is also evidence of what your listing claims to be, which is how accessory and competitor-brand phrases turn into relevance problems.

The numbers

  • 125 characters, below the title in search results and on the detail page; announced June 10, 2026 and applied July 27, 2026 alongside the 75-character non-media title cap.
  • Amazon frames the intended content as materials, age ranges, compatibility information, and use cases — the qualifiers shoppers use to compare two products that match the same head term.
  • Live demand read (Helium 10, Aug 2026): across 'air fryer', 'yoga mat' and 'office chair' in the US, the head term carries only 37.4-54.7% of 30-day exact impressions, so 45-63% of category demand sits in the modifier phrases this field is meant to hold.
