Title density (Helium 10 metric)
Helium 10's count of page-1 results with the exact phrase in their title — low density signals a ranking gap you can occupy; high density signals a knife fight.
Title density counts how many page-1 organic results contain the exact search phrase in their titles. The logic: titles are the strongest relevance field, so a page 1 full of exact-title matches is a saturated battlefield, while high-volume keywords with low title density are demand nobody has structurally claimed.
It is a prioritization lens, not a verdict — brands with overwhelming velocity outrank exact-match titles without carrying the phrase. Hunt the anomalies: meaningful volume, title density in the low single digits, and page-1 listings winning on brand rather than relevance. Those are the phrases where a title edit plus modest PPC can take real estate quickly.
The numbers
- Live read (Helium 10, Aug 2026): 'yoga mat' shows title density 38 — a saturated head term where exact-title matching is table stakes, not an edge.
- The opportunity pattern: high volume + low title density + weak brand incumbents.
