Organic rank tracking
Watching where you place in search results for your keywords — organic separated from sponsored — the daily EKG of your listing's health and the read-out on every optimization bet.
Rank tracking records your position (organic and, separately, sponsored) for a keyword set over time. Position is personalization- and location-noisy, so trackers standardize the query context; trends and step-changes matter, single readings do not.
Operate a tiered set: hero terms daily, the mid-tail weekly. Read events against it — a title change, a deal, a stockout each leave signatures (our 10–14 day read cadence exists precisely to see them cleanly). The pattern that pages an operator: broad simultaneous decline across unrelated terms, which smells like suppression, a lost badge, or an algorithm shift rather than keyword-level competition.
The numbers
- Track organic and sponsored positions separately; standardized query context beats spot checks.
- Broad simultaneous drops across unrelated terms = systemic issue (suppression/badge/algorithm), not competition.
