FBA fulfillment fee
The per-unit pick-pack-ship charge, set by size tier and weight bands — the second pillar of unit economics, and the reason packaging dimensions are a pricing decision.
Every FBA unit pays a fulfillment fee determined by its size tier and shipping weight, on a published schedule of bands. Small differences compound: a product that crosses a size-tier boundary by a centimeter of packaging pays the higher tier on every unit forever.
Operator moves: verify Amazon's recorded dimensions against reality (mis-measurement happens and is contestable), engineer packaging to sit safely inside a tier, and re-check fee previews after any packaging change. Note the seasonal layer too — recent years added holiday peak fulfillment surcharges in Q4. For 2026, Amazon's headline was that fees held flat while inbound deadlines moved earlier — the calendar, not the rate card, is this year's cost story.
