Amazon Currency Converter (ACCS)

The default currency pipe for international sellers — Amazon converts USD disbursements to your home-currency bank at a spread — convenient, automatic, and one of the most quietly expensive defaults in cross-border selling.

Sellers without a US bank account get paid through ACCS: Amazon converts each disbursement at its rate with a service spread (typically up to ~1.5% depending on volume tier and marketplace) and wires local currency. It requires nothing and costs a slice of everything.

The alternatives define the savings: virtual USD accounts from cross-border fintechs, or Amazon's own Seller Wallet with tiered FX pricing, commonly land materially below the default spread. On meaningful revenue the delta is a full-time salary — currency routing is a procurement decision, not a settings afterthought.

The numbers

  • Mechanism: automatic FX conversion on each disbursement, spread typically up to ~1.5% by tier.
  • Alternatives (virtual USD accounts, Seller Wallet) usually price meaningfully below the default.
