Variations (parent-child relationships)
One parent listing holding child ASINs that differ by theme — size, color, count — pooling reviews and traffic on a single page instead of splitting them across fragments.
A variation family gathers purchasable child ASINs under one non-purchasable parent, varying along approved themes (size, color, flavor, count). The family shares a detail page, which concentrates sessions, consolidates review display, and lets a strong child lift its siblings.
Two operator cautions. First, structure changes are catalog surgery — breaking or rebuilding families mid-flight can orphan reviews and rank; record before-states and change one thing at a time. Second, variation abuse (gluing unrelated products into one family to pool reviews) is an enforcement target that ends in suppressed listings — keep families honest.
