Storage utilization surcharge
The extra storage fee for hoarders — kicks in when your stored volume towers over your shipped volume — Amazon pricing the ratio, not just the cubic feet.
On top of base monthly storage, Amazon surcharges accounts whose storage utilization ratio — cube stored relative to cube shipped over the trailing period — crosses published thresholds. Fast-turning inventory never sees it; long-tail-heavy catalogs and speculative stockpiles pay a premium per cubic foot precisely because the space produces so little.
It closed the loophole aged-inventory fees missed: a catalog can be individually young but collectively stagnant. The management lens is the ratio itself — trim assortment breadth that ships nothing, size buys to velocity, and let AWD hold speculation upstream where the ratio math (and the rate card) is kinder.
