Merch on Demand
Amazon's print-on-demand program — upload designs, Amazon prints and ships shirts and merch per order, you collect royalties with zero inventory ever existing.
Merch on Demand inverts the seller model: no inventory, no FBA, no unit economics beyond a royalty schedule. You upload artwork, choose products (tees, hoodies, phone cases and more), set list prices within bounds, and Amazon manufactures per order — royalties are the margin, tier upgrades come from sales volume.
Application-gated with limited invitation waves and strict content/IP policing — design theft is endemic and enforcement cuts both ways. As a business it rewards prolific, niche-targeted design catalogs over single hero designs; as a brand tool it is a zero-risk way to test whether your audience wears your brand.
The numbers
- Model: upload designs → per-order manufacturing → royalty payments; tier system expands slots with sales.
- Application-gated; content and IP policies enforced aggressively in both directions.
