IP complaints (trademark, copyright, patent)

Rights-owner reports that remove listings on assertion — the account-health event where response speed and paperwork quality decide whether it stays a scratch or becomes a suspension.

Amazon's notice-and-takedown honors intellectual-property complaints quickly: trademark (brand misuse or counterfeit assertion), copyright (stolen images or text), and patent claims each remove listings and log against account health. Some arrive from legitimate brands, some from competitors weaponizing the form.

Triage in order: source authenticity (invoices from authorized supply prove non-counterfeit), retraction requests when the claim is wrong (complainants must provide contact details), and the violation workflow with documentation when it is arguable. Prevention is Brand Registry from the other side — owning your marks before someone else registers them against you — plus original photography and copy that never borrows.

The numbers

  • Three species: trademark, copyright, patent — each removable on rights-owner assertion via Amazon's report form.
  • Counterfeit-without-test-buy complaints are contestable with sourcing documentation (invoices matching the supply chain).
  • Unresolved IP violations weigh heavily in AHR and stack toward deactivation.
