INFORM Consumers Act verification
The US law forcing marketplaces to verify high-volume sellers — identity, bank, tax data, annual recertification — and the compliance deadline that suspends accounts that ignore the email.
Since 2023, US law requires Amazon to collect and verify identity, banking, and tax information from high-volume sellers (200+ transactions and $5,000+ in a year), re-certify it annually, and disclose seller identity to buyers above thresholds. Amazon's enforcement is mechanical: miss the verification window and the account deactivates until you comply.
The failure mode is operational, not fraudulent — expired documents, a changed bank account, the certification email lost in a shared inbox. Treat INFORM like a license renewal: calendar the annual certification, keep entity documents current, and update banking through the proper workflow before the old account closes.
The numbers
- Threshold: 200+ transactions AND $5,000+ revenue in a 12-month window → verification + annual recertification.
- Non-response deactivates the account until compliance; buyer-facing identity disclosure applies above higher thresholds.
