Fair pricing policy

Amazon's rule against prices that 'harm customer trust' — gouging spikes, reference-price games, or pricing above your own off-Amazon price — enforced by suppressing the offer, not by asking.

The Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy lets Amazon act on offers priced to damage trust: spikes above recent or off-site prices (the pandemic-era gouging enforcement), fake reference prices, shipping-cost games. The action is usually silent — Featured Offer removal or full suppression with a 'pricing error' flag in Manage Inventory.

It also encodes the parity expectation: pricing meaningfully above your own price elsewhere can cost the Buy Box. The operational habit: watch the Pricing Health dashboard, clear 'potential pricing error' flags promptly (they are frequently stale-comparison false positives you can correct), and keep list-price theater out of your repricing strategy.

The numbers

  • Enforcement: Featured Offer loss or listing suppression, flagged in Pricing Health as pricing errors.
  • Triggers: price spikes vs. recent/off-site prices, misleading reference prices, above-own-site pricing.
