Counterfeit Crimes Unit (CCU)

Amazon's in-house anti-counterfeiting law unit — investigators and lawyers who sue counterfeiters, refer criminal cases, and act on the evidence brands escalate.

The CCU (established 2020) pursues counterfeiters beyond takedowns: civil litigation, criminal referrals to law enforcement, and joint suits with brands. It converts marketplace enforcement from listing whack-a-mole into legal consequence for the operators behind repeat counterfeit networks.

Brands feed it: documented test buys, repeat-offender patterns, and Transparency/Project Zero data all escalate through Brand Registry channels toward CCU attention. For a brand bleeding to organized counterfeiting, the pitch to make in those escalations is the network, not the listing — CCU exists for the sellers takedowns cannot deter.

The numbers

  • Established 2020; tools: civil suits, criminal referrals, brand co-litigation.
  • Escalation fuel: test-buy evidence + repeat-offender documentation via Brand Registry channels.
